About

Recipes and rants is the general theme. I’m interested in food in lots of different ways. As well as the obvious enjoyment of tasty food I’m interested in issues surrounding food, for example it’s role in society, it’s effects on health and the impact our ways of production and consumption have on the environment. I try to eat seasonal, local produce as much as possible and currently don’t eat meat or fish. I avoid “super” markets and love wandering around real markets.

I am concerned with the way food is being devalued and is disappearing from our culture. Fast food and fast lifestyles contribute to an unhappy state of being and I believe our growing rates of obesity, depression and disease are the direct result. I hope to encourage people who don’t already to bring good food back into their lives, to sit with family and friends and to enjoy good home made food. As such my blog does not simply cover recipes, often I’ll talk more about the situation, my daily adventures and events as I see food as an integral part of life that should be celebrated rather an inconvenient thing we must do in order to keep going.

Recipewise I tend to stick to simpler things, I’m not into fancy ingredients you’ve never heard of, can’t easily get hold of and won’t use. I want to encourage people to cook and enjoy food and so aim to provide ideas for meals that are accessible to all. Hopefully this will also show that a good diet does not need to be an expensive one. Get rid of the processed food and you stop paying for someone else to prepare your (substandard) food for you. Taking this to the extreme I’ve give up my job to go on adventures and so with cost often an issue, free food is on the menu. I enjoy foraging for mushrooms and other wild food and hope to provide guidance so other people can do the same.

I really hope you enjoy my blog and would love to hear any comments you might have. You can either contact me direct, or just leave a comment in the usual way on a post.
